RE: General Membership Meeting Summary Report for July 16th, 2025


The following notes represent my personal summary of the July General Membership Meeting and ARE NOT OFFICIAL MINUTES. They are for the express purpose of keeping the members informed in a timely fashion. Since minutes must be approved at a subsequent General Membership Meeting, any updates which would require the use of the actual minutes would result in updates being one-month old.

The following was approved at the July meeting:

  • Minutes of the June 18th, 2025 meeting 
  • The financial statement ending June  2025 and the disbursements of $125,454.24.   Our disbursements were in excess of our receipts by $5,010.52.  This resulted in our General Account being positive by $158,544.37.

The following motions were approved:

1) Motion – Approved a donation of $1695.00 to sponsor the Community Builder's Awards to recognize individuals and organizations making a lasting impact in our community.

2)  Motion  -  Approved an increase in our advertising budget for SOOTODAY.



Committee Report

-  The Apprenticeship Committee, Health and Safety Committee and the WSIB Committee all made reports at the meeting.


President Report

-  Mike gave a brief update on staffing at Algoma Steel

-  He also gave an update on Innocent Absenteeism and what has been happening in the plant

-  Mike gave a report on the lawsuit with the Group Health Centre.  We had just received the decision on the motion before

   Judge Madam Justice K.E. Cullin.  Mike read off the judge's decision to the member and there was a short discussion about

   what the order meant for Local 2251.

-  Mike read a letter that was sent to A.J. Pettalia regarding the medical forms that our members are being asked to get their

    physician to fill out. 


The next General Membership Meeting will be held on August 20th, 2025 at the Royal Canadian Legion at 7:30 pm.
