RE: General Membership Meeting Summary Report for May 21st, 2025


The following notes represent my personal summary of the May General Membership Meeting and ARE NOT OFFICIAL MINUTES. They are for the express purpose of keeping the members informed in a timely fashion. Since minutes must be approved at a subsequent General Membership Meeting, any updates which would require the use of the actual minutes would result in updates being one-month old.

The following was approved at the May meeting:

  • Minutes of the April 16, 2025 meeting 
  • The financial statement ending April 2025 and the disbursements of $143,855.00.   Our receipts were in excess of our disbursements by $32,062.66.  This resulted in our General Account being positive by $159,327.92.

The following motions were approved:

1) Motion – Approved the cost to purchase two Soo Greyhound season tickets to be drawn at membership meetings.

2)  Motion  -  Approved the cost of a new alarm system for the building at a cost of $2598.99.

3)  Motion -  Approved the cost to send Brother Jamie Wabigwan to the 4th National Indigenous Conference in Winnipeg for July 7th and 8th, 2025

4)  Motion  -  Approved a donation of $360.47 for the MADD Message Yearbook.

5)  Motion - Approved a donation of $4000.00 to the Shrine Foundation which provides Shine Dreams for youth with disabilities.

6)  Motion  -  Approved a donation of $1000.00 to Rotary Club of Sault Ste Marie for the Rotary Festival to be held July 17-19, 2025.

7)  Motion  -  Approved a donation of $300.00 for supplies and materials related to the garden boxes located outside the 2251 office at Albert Street and Blutcher.

8)  Motion  -  Approved a donation of $1300.00 plus tax to support the annual fundraiser for Make a Wish Foundation.

9)  Motion  -  Approved the cost of UV laminate to be placed on three front windows at 8 Albert Street East at a cost of $1047.50.


 

Committee Report

-  Election Committee Reported that the Progressive Conservative Party was endorsed.


President Report

-  Mike gave an update on the lawsuit with the Group Health Centre - Lawyer sent a letter to the judge regarding our lawsuit.

    We received an update from the lawyer.  The Judge has requested 6 more weeks to make a decision and she has been

    granted this request by the supervisory body.

-  Mike spoke on the Innocent Absenteeism policy at Algoma Steel.

-  He spoke on 12-hour shifts vs 8-hour shifts.

-  Mike mentioned that if you have been laid off, you have benefits for 13 weeks.  If you are called in for a single shift, after the

   13 weeks, your benefits reset to start another 13 weeks.

-  Mike also spoke on notices being sent to members re:  lay offs upcoming.

-  He also mentioned to contact Human Resources re:  4 hours work and being sent home for 8 hours.




The next General Membership Meeting will be held on  June 18th, 2025 at the Royal Canadian Legion at 7:30 pm.
