RE: General Membership Meeting Summary Report for April 20, 2022
The new season is a great reason to make and keep resolutions. Whether it’s eating right or cleaning out the garage, here are some tips for making and keeping resolutions.
The following notes represent my personal summary of the April General Membership Meeting and ARE NOT OFFICIAL MINUTES. They are for the express purpose of keeping the members informed in a timely fashion. Since minutes must be approved at a subsequent General Membership Meeting, any updates which would require the use of the actual minutes would result in updates being one-month old.
The following was approved at the April meeting:
- Minutes of the March 16th, 2022 meeting
- The financial statement ending March 31, 2022 and the disbursements of $.114,541.76. Our disbursements were in excess of our receipts by $23,024.77. This resulted in our General Account being positive by $201,987.36.
The following was approved at the March meeting:
- Motion – Approve a donation of $1000.00 to the Community Strong Festival fundraising campaign to bring awareness to physical and mental health issues.
- Motion – Approve a donation of $1000.00 to support the 9th annual Sault Ste Marie Pridefest.
- Motion – Approve the cost up to $50,000.00 to purchase 2000 shirts to support solidarity for the upcoming negotiations. Motion was amended to purchases 2100 shirts at a cost of approximately $57,630.00.
- Motion – Approve a cost of $52.00 for the GST on a motion passed on September 15, 2021 to support Police Retirees of Ontario to distribute bears on our behalf to children in emergency situations.

President, Michael Da Prat reported the following:
- Mike announced that the Pension Solvency for Local 2251 was at 91%, Local 2724 was at 88% as of December 31st, 2021.
- He stated that the Executive were preparing groups of grievances to be taken to negotiations to attempt to negotiate settlements for them.
- Mike Stated that we need names for the Election Committee for the upcoming election of Recording Secretary.
- He announced John Kallio's retirement on May 1st, 2022 and thanked him for his service to the Union.
The next General Membership Meeting will be held on May 18th, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., at Marconi Event Centre.
